What does it mean to become somebody else’s story?

A commitment to truth. A fearlessness. I'm gonna feel silly if this isn't actually her, but I think it's Meryl Streep who said―when she's able to understand the part of the character that she doesn't like, that's when she's found them. So we were talking about it way before, when you said, how much of is it that you're finding yourself in the character and how much of it is a stretch? I think that's an age old debate, even in drama school, you hear that debate all the time. It's that combination of 'how can I relate' and finding, or rather understanding, what you don't personally get about that character, so you can bring that character and ultimately that story to justice.
